La Rosière’s Pink Road: A Color That Has Become Iconic

For several years now, the famous Pink Road has caught the eye of cyclists, visitors, and mountain lovers alike. Much more than just a stretch of colored pavement, it has become a true symbol of the region.

A road born with the Tour de France

The history of the Pink Road began in 2018, when the Tour de France arrived in La Rosière. That year, the resort hosted the finish of the eleventh stage, a historic event that put the village in the global spotlight.

To mark this exceptional finish, a section of road at the top of Les Soveureux was painted pink. A clear nod to the resort’s iconic color, but also a powerful way to establish La Rosière within the world of mountain cycling.

Given the enthusiasm generated by this initiative, the project has since been repeated every year.

The Pink Road is no accident. Its color was specifically chosen: it is the shade of pink unique to La Rosière, which over time has become a true visual signature of the resort.

The paint used also has anti-slip properties to ensure the safety of cyclists and motorists on this stretch of mountain road.

Over the years, this road has become a true symbol of identity. Today, when people mention “the Pink Road,” many immediately think of La Rosière.

A Must-Visit Destination for Cyclists

Beyond its visual appeal, the Pink Road has established itself as an iconic spot for cycling enthusiasts. Every summer, countless cyclists tackle the climb and stop to capture their journey.

Souvenir photos, videos, Instagram posts… images of the Route Rose circulate widely on social media and help spread the resort’s reputation far beyond the borders of Savoie.

An Evolving Identity

Over the years, the project has also evolved. Last year, the main section was shortened to allow for the creation of new pink stripes at various strategic locations throughout the town: in front of the Séez school, in front of the Tourist Office, and along the Golf Road.

This is a way to expand this visual identity and strengthen the connection between the resort, its residents, and its cycling image.

For the town’s technical teams, creating the Route Rose each year involves meticulous and careful work. Today, this road marking is considered a true public asset, a key element of La Rosière’s visual heritage.
