The Petit-Saint-Bernard Pass closes for winter
Throughout the winter, the road linking La Rosière with the Valle d’Aosta will remain closed. You will have to wait until spring and the reopening of the pass to drive this iconic route between France and Italy again.
The road closes, but the link with Italy continues differently
In La Rosière, the closure of the Petit-Saint-Bernard Pass does not mean that Italy becomes inaccessible for the whole winter. From 12 December 2026, when our ski area opens, you will once again be able to cross the border… on skis.
Thanks to the Espace San Bernardo, our cross-border ski area, you can ski directly from La Rosière to La Thuile in Italy.
Ski between France and Italy this winter
With 156 km of pistes across France and Italy, the Espace San Bernardo offers a unique Alpine experience: skiing in two countries in the same day.
From La Rosière, simply click into your skis and head towards the Italian side, enjoy a change of scenery and perhaps stop for lunch in La Thuile before skiing back to France.
It is another way to cross the border while the road over the pass rests beneath the snow.
See you back on the road in spring
The Petit-Saint-Bernard Pass road will reopen in spring, once conditions allow traffic to resume safely. The exact reopening date will depend on snow conditions and the work required to clear the road.
Until then, join us from 12 December 2026 to reach Italy a different way: on skis from La Rosière.
