Geocaching
Embark on a geocaching adventure, halfway between a treasure hunt and a fun hiking experience!
Armed with your smartphone or a GPS device, set off in search of “caches” hidden in the resort’s iconic locations. From forests and mountain views to alpine trails, the resort centre and charming hamlets, each cache invites you to explore the area whilst solving puzzles and taking on challenges.
What is Geocaching?
Since the 2000s, the Geocaching app has continued to grow. Today, Geocaching describes itself as “the world’s biggest treasure hunt” and now has thousands of users keen to discover the world from a different angle, combining fun with the great outdoors.
Naturally, Geocaching is right at home in La Rosière. You can find caches in the resort, in the hamlets, in the Haute Tarentaise valley and even on the hills overlooking the village.
Caches are rated out of 5, depending on the difficulty of the terrain and the hiding place. Geocaching is free for all levels below 2. Above that, the app requires a fee.
How does it work?
The principle behind geocaching is very simple!
- Download the Geocaching app
- Create an account
- Find the cache you’re interested in
- Follow the GPS
- Find the cache
- Write your name and the date
Some caches contain small items; you may take one if you replace it with another item.
Yes, geocaching in La Rosière is a great activity for families. The trails allow children to experience the mountains in a different way, whilst walking, observing nature and solving puzzles.
No, there are caches for all levels. Some are just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of La Rosière, whilst others require a more challenging hike in the mountains.
Caches usually contain a logbook in which you can write your name and the date of your visit. Some caches also contain small items to swap: if you take an item, it is recommended that you leave another one in its place.
