Ruitor waterfalls

Three waterfalls, three amazing spots, amongst the most spectacular in Val d'Aoste.

The waterfalls originate from the mountain stream of the same name, and are fed by numerous small lakes located on the North-Western edge of the Ruitor Glacier, the main source of the water. The Glacier du Ruitor is the sixth largest glacier in Italy. To admire the beauty of the waterfalls, one can take a track that, in 1h20 leads you from La Joux (at an altitude of 1603 m), situated about 3km from La Thuile, to the third waterfall (at an altitude of 1996 m). Departing from the dwellings of La Joux, walk along the mule path which passes through a forest of conifer trees, before arriving at a panoramic lookout point after a 20 min walk. This first lookout offers a spectacular panoramic view of the first waterfall located at an altitude of 1700 m. A brief deviation from the main track is recommended at this point, which will take you along the bridge that overlooks the waterfall, for a breathtaking view of the waterfall from above. One can then continue along the forest path, and pass through a bucolic plateau near the stream before reaching the Chalet Parcet, at an altitude of 1772 m. Continue walking upwards along the path, which is paved in some areas, before reaching a turn on your right where the second waterfall is located (at an altitude of 1850 m). A few turns later, one can finally admire the third waterfall on the right. In the surrounding area one can also find a crossing. One path leads to the Refuge Deffeyes (located at an altitude of 2494 m) and the other path, on your right, leads in the direction of the Bellecombe Lakes.
