Located at an altitude of 2,188 metres between La Rosière and La Thuile, the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard is more than just a crossing point between France and Italy: it is a place steeped in history, beauty and symbolism. Open in summer, it becomes a destination in its own right.

A road to experience

In summer, the pass can be reached from La Rosière by car, bicycle or shuttle bus. In winter, skiers can cross the border via the slopes of the Espace San Bernardo. This high point on the ridge offers spectacular views and an atmosphere suspended between two cultures.

A thousand-year journey

Since ancient times, the pass has connected the peoples of both sides of the Alps. Celts, Romans, travellers and armies have crossed it for centuries. A Roman road, still visible today, recalls the strategic importance of this passage. The S4 route allows you to follow in their footsteps on foot or by mountain bike in summer.

La Chanousia: a garden between sky and treetops

Created by Abbé Chanoux, this alpine botanical garden contains nearly 1,000 varieties of mountain plants. Destroyed during the war and then restored, it offers a contemplative and informative stroll just a few steps from the pass.
