1. Lago Verney (Italy)
Access:
- On foot: 22 km (round trip) along the Reclus valley via the Petit Saint-Bernard pass, 750 m elevation gain.
- By bike: demanding 18 km (round trip), 500 m elevation gain.
- Shuttle: summer shuttle La Rosière–La Thuile (stop 1 km from the lake).
- By car: 20 minutes from La Rosière (border crossing at the Petit Saint-Bernard pass).
Why go? Stunning scenery, surrounded by peaks with Mont Blanc views. Activities: short 3 km loop walk, picnic, relaxation.
Good to know: Passport or ID card recommended for border crossing.
2. Lac du Retour

On foot only: 1h30 walk from the Plan de l’Arc car park (signposted trail).
Why go? At 1,800 m, this lake offers crystal-clear waters and outstanding views. Ideal for a picnic and spotting local flora and fauna.
Good to know: Family-friendly but demanding trail.
3. Lago d’Arpy (Italie)
Access:
- On foot or bike: 3 km from the Col San Carlo car park, 150 m elevation gain.
- Shuttle: summer shuttle La Rosière–La Thuile, then walk or cycle.
- By car: 20 minutes from La Thuile to the Col San Carlo, then 3 km walk.
Why go? Turquoise waters, forest setting, and a pristine Alpine atmosphere.
Good to know: Protected area – respect flora and fauna. No food services (bring a picnic).
4. Lac Sans Fond
Access:
- On foot: 1h hike from the Hospice du Petit Saint-Bernard car park (6 km, 300 m elevation gain, round trip).
- By bike: 18 km round trip from La Rosière centre, 650 m elevation gain.
- Shuttle: summer shuttle La Rosière–La Thuile (stop Hospice du Petit Saint-Bernard).
- By car: 25 minutes to the Hospice car park, then walk.
Why go? A mysterious lake surrounded by local legends. Great for hikes and wildlife spotting (look out for marmots).
Good to know: Steep trail in places.
5. Lac Longet
Access:
- On foot: 20 minutes from the Hospice du Petit Saint-Bernard car park.
- By bike: 16 km round trip from La Rosière via Fort de la Redoute Ruinée (800 m climb) or the Hospice (500 m climb).
- Shuttle: summer shuttle La Rosière–La Thuile (stop Hospice du Petit Saint-Bernard).
- By car: 25 minutes to the Hospice car park, then walk.
Why go? Small, peaceful lake, perfect for a family break. Marmots often spotted.
Good to know: No facilities – bring a blanket to sit on.
6. Plan de l’Arc (La Rosière)
Access:
- On foot: 20 minutes from La Rosière centre, 5 minutes from Les Eucherts.
- By bike: 10 minutes from La Rosière centre.
- By car: 5 minutes (free parking).
- Shuttle: summer shuttle stop “Plan de l’Arc”.
Why go? Leisure area with views of Mont Pourri, picnic tables, children’s play areas, table tennis, zipline, pumptrack and pétanque. Starting point for hikes (Lac du Retour, Fort de la Redoute Ruinée). On-site dining and seasonal activities.
Good to know: Shady areas – perfect in summer.
